View from Trent Bridge

We are very much a side in transition, I feel at the moment having lost over a relatively short time Lumb, Hales ( only white ball this year) T Taylor, B Taylor and Read and although last season was brilliant I believe it will be much harder as the season approaches. The list of players mentioned means our batting line ufp is vastly changed and at the moment believe it will be something like Nash, Libby & Taylor (Ross obviously a requisite at Trent Bridge, there has to be a Taylor in the side although I feel after Pujara flattered to deceive last season this is a potentially tremendous signing. Samit, Wessels, Mullaney ( captain) Libby is a real throw back who dosent score quickly and it will be intresting to see his progress.
Much will rest on Wessels and Samit, the latter seemingly at his peak at the moment and is rapidly becoming the most popular cricketer at The Bridge since Derek Randall. Elsewhere Tom Moores has the impossible task of trying to fill Read's boots. Our bowling line up is anyone's guess but probably Ball, Gurney & Fletcher. This leaves an all rounders slot and I believe this will fall to Luke Wood who could really make a name for himself this season, early 20's fast left arm bowler and on his day is capable of knocking the ball to all 4 corners of the ground.
Add Sodhi & Christian for the slogfests & I reckon this season is all about avoiding relegation back to Divison 2 with hopefully the bonus of a white ball trophy but I'm hopeful rather than confident.

The coming season

I have invited a Notts, Surrey, Durham & Northants fan to tell me how they think their teams will get on this season. I await their replies. Until then my take on YCCC this forthcoming season. I don't see us as favourites this year, other clubs have invested more into their squads in an attempt to win the county crown. I'm happy with the signings of Pujara & Williamson as our overseas players. The IPL auction worked in the county's favour as none of the 5 players put forward had any success. As there's a relatively decent gap between between games involving Team England then we should be operating at full strength for our fixtures in April & May. Hopefully the ECB will see that Joe Root needs to get some red ball cricket under his belt. A particular key to the season is does David Willey have any ambition to improve his first class career. This weeks thoughts

Well all appears to be going well on tour, our fragile batsmen seem to be getting it together. Centuries for Lees,Kohler -Cadmore Brook & Leaning are encouraging. This week has had Andrew Gale saying that TKC is one of the finest white ball players in the country. As I type Brook has just retired on 67 & Lyth with his first knock of the season scoring an impressive 56 off 98 balls. New recruit Cheteshwar Pujara is reportedly  to be having a run of good form in domestic cricket in India.Let's hope this is a sign of things to come this season. Now less than 4 weeks to go, hard to believe as the snow falls outside. Anyway we are going to try the new Premier Inn at Headingley & have booked in for 4 nights for the Essex game, let's hope it lasts longer than the corresponding fixture that took place at Scarborough.
